You might try Robert A. Heinlein's "I Will Fear No Evil." Heinlein is the acknowledged master of sci-fi. While this may no be exactly what you're looking for--it is the story of a dying man who advertises for a body into which his mind can be transferred to increase his longevity (the one he gets is a female body)--I enjoyed it. Of course, the fact that I am a trans woman had nothing whatsoever to do with it! lol
