Same here. I have still got the original novels in paperback form;

Deathwing, Inquisitor, Space Marine etc

The whole WH40K universe has evolved over the last 20 years. Gone are the brightly coloured miniature armies, sqauts etc. All to be replaced by a grimmer, more gothic and dismal future.

I do enjoy more stories involving the Imperial Guards, particularly the stories by Dan Abnett.

However, like all big franchises the ratio of good authors and bad ones reduces somewhat.
