That certainly makes more sense so I tried an experiment. I opened the edit metadata window as usual, opened the download metadata window as usual, and moved the download metadata window till it was fully visible. Then I opened the task manager and closed calibre. When I started calibre again, the download metadata window was visible. I have no idea why this worked but it did so I'm not complaining.
