I started with Horus Heresy this week after a good pen&paper session (my first W40k)

So far it is as good as can be expected. It is a shared world so novels are a little more on the entertainment side (all novels are about entertainment but I am sure sf&f readers would understand what I mean). Among other shared-world novels (I am only on the second book of the series) they are good. Not Netheril Trilogy or Starlight & Shadows good, but better then most. Definitely best in sci-fi in their game book genre.

I recommend it.

The game we played was Deathwatch by the way, interesting stuff. GM was really into it and told us the world's story for 2 hours. That was what drew me in.
