Every flight I take the announcement is to turn off all electronics including phones, music players, laptops, e-readers, headsets, and video game players. They then mention that there is a list of approved devices in the flight information found in the seat pocket for you to check.

I fly Jet Blue and United a fair amount and that is what I hear.
