Apple situation was significantly worse because they had 2 external antennas without any kind of insulation, so by simply holding the phone you shortcircuit them and become detuned. You could lose 25dB as a result, very significant, and worse when you add the erroneous signal strength display. Other phones have internal antennas and you can dampen the signal somewhat while holding them, but you can't detune the antenna and cause a drop of 25dB. The apple design was flawed, there is way around it.
