I went into a Staples yesterday, one of the employees were telling me that when you purchase a hardcover, some, are offering a free ereader download along with it. I never heard that, but then again I am quite new to the ereader world....

For what it's worth, Best Buy Canada has the Sony on for $139.99 this week. Unfortunately, since Best Buy also has the Kobo Touch on sale for $119.99 and The Source has the Kindle Touch at $139.99, many people will not find Sony's price to be compelling.
Personally, I think the features of the Sony (e.g. EPUB support; multitouch display; integrated dictionaries/Wikipedia/Google; access to public libraries; audio playback; etc.) make it the best e-reader currently available in Canada. However, unless Sony can keep their prices competitive, I'm not optimistic for the future of the product.
BTW, I'd take anything Staples employees say with a grain of salt. I'm not aware of any hardcover books being sold with free downloads; although I'd love to be proved wrong.
