OK, if you store a reference to the file instead of the file, that's great. I like the idea of copying the file to a configurable storage location. I'm thinking of something like itunes, where you have the option of having itunes manage the directory structure & files for your music collection. I think that lets backup/restore work much more cleanly.

For the current version, there's no clean way of extracting the book from the command line, is there? That would have to be done directly in python, right? I don't think it would be that hard to work something out from the existing code to do that.
