Wouldn't it be nice if retailers made authors choose a minimum recommended reading age for their books. It may not be accurate and highly open to interpretation, but at least if you see a book with an age rating along with a brief "content" summary, you can make a more informed choice.

Apple have a system along those lines in place for the app store. You select various tick boxes to describe the worst content in your app/game and it sticks a recommended rating on it.

Of course, that assumes authors don't lie to get their book a lower rating, but doing that will only lead to complaints and eventually the re-rating or pulling of their books.

As for the question, my reaction was it's a YA series for 13+ There may be younger kids that are fine with the book, but only their parents could decide that and really that means either read the book first yourself, or make them wait a little and read another series.
