There is a "back" button on the T1, but it's a Android style "back" button, not a navigation "back" button.

If you select a hyperlink in a book on the T1 you activate the previous/next view mode on-screen buttons. Pressing the "back" button at this stage simply takes you out of previous/next view mode. To return to the previous position you need to press the on-screen previous view button, then the "back" button to take you out of previous/next view mode.
