If you publish via Smaswords, you will get a free ISBN, and they will get you in to Apple, B&N, and most of the major players, except Amazon. Its free to do, they pay 70% royalties.
Amazon you can go direct through KDP and its very easy.
Those two places are really the best place to start for an indy author, IMO.
