So, I tried copy and paste the Calibre books folders in its library (sorted according to the authors) to the Kobo Touch folder of the ereader, on Window Explorer. When I unplug the cable and turn the ereader on again, it still does not show in the "Library" of the reader (accessed via "Home") on the screen. Please tell me what I've done wrong.

Either of those methods should have worked. I have no issue with using Calibre like this to put books on my Kobo Touch. And I have tried the manual method as well.
When you use Calibre to do this, it should create a directory on the KT for each author. Inside that should each ebook for the author. Once you eject and unplug the KT, it will sit and think for a while and show an updating screen while it processes the new ebooks, Depending on how many ebooks you put on, this can take a while. I have seen it take a few minutes after I unplug the KT before it changes from the "Plugged in and charging screen" to the "processing updates screen", so be patient. When it gets to the latter, it should show a percent complete. A couple of times, this has taken so long that I used the slide switch to put it to sleep and then immediately woke it up. This seemed to trigger the library update.
If the above isn't happening, when you plug it in again, check the directories and ebook files are there where expected. If they aren't, try copying only one ebook and check that gets recognized.
A possible problem is if there is a corrupt ebook being copied. In this case, I beleive the KT will stop processing the books into the library. If this is the case, you need to determine which ebook it is and remove that. One thing you can check is the contents of the "/.kobo/images". When the KT is processing new ebooks, it generates cover images to this directory. There should be five images per ebook. The newest image will tell you which was the last book processed. I would delete this ebook and then see if it processes the rest. Altrnatively, delete them all and then try putting them on one at a time until you find the bad one.
