I've been to Bali five....maybe six times (I'll have to go check my Passport). Obviously, I'm fond of the place, though I haven't been since any of the detonations. If you eventually get there, Steve, I hope you'll enjoy it too. It's a beautiful place (well, outside of Kuta, etc. which is still okay for the food and the shopping) and the people are lovely. The food is just magic though - 9000Rp mee goreng [drool]. Ubud is great, especially if you're seeking quiet, and Nusa Dua is very tropical enclave (big motel chains on the beach, but very nice and relaxing with it). The north side of the island (I've not been) is noted for being the best for combinations of luxury and quiet though, though not as easy to get to).
