True. I also think it does have something to do with your surroundings as you grow up. If you always have quiet when you study, you are going to be used to that. If there is a certain level of noise that is background noise to you ... then that's what you are used to.
When I was in the medical program at UCLA, one girl and I were given pop exams to do and sent off to the library at the Medical Center to do them. Now, I've always had breathing problems ... I'm allergic to everything, and my lungs and sinuses are always working hard to get any oxygen at all into my brain. So, in a quiet room .... my breathing can sound a bit Darth Vader. She and I were working on our exams, and then suddenly she looks at me and, at the top of her lungs shouts "
WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP BREATHING, IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY."
Me .... I had long since gotten used to the sound of my breathing and I just don't hear it anymore. I took my exam and sort of sheepishly moved to another floor of the building.
