In my case, because I wanted epub support.

That and my congenital antagonism to anything that smacks of monopoly.

Of course, if Kindle had gone with an open system from the beginning, I suspect that they would now have a monopoly of the e-reader market.

I can't decide if I'm glad or not that they seem to have missed the boat on that.

I do find the Facebooky/sharey stuff bizarre though! Thankfully it can be ignored.
