I like the feel of paper. I like the longevity of paper. I like that I can brush crumbs off it, dry it out after I drop it in the bathtub, pick one up in a store and flip to any page to preview before I buy, find out-of-print books, can loan it to my friends, share it with my spouse, give it away, etc. I appreciate that paper has a life of it's own, and digital seems ephemeral. I like the fact that somebody usually feels compelled to check the layout, spelling, and grammar before publishing a paper book. I like that I can read a pbook on the laptop (or at least lap) I own, and I don't have to buy a matching lap or secret decoder glasses. I like that fights and skulduggery between book publishers, distributors, digital rights managers, retailers, etc., haven't removed p-book access from most of the library systems in my metro area. I like having a librarian or bookstore employee make recommendations based on what I already have in my hand. I like going to a friend's house and perusing their bookcase.
I read ebooks (and buy ebooks) because I'm running out of storage space for paper books, and run out of will to "thin the herd". I take advantage of ebook promos to check out a new author (or a genre I don't usually read), or because it offers a significant price advantage to a pbook, and lately to acquire out-of-paper-print back catalog titles from authors I already know. My wife appreciates that she can enlarge the font size of ebooks. I like that I can have an ebook with me to read on my phone.
