For all that, I doubt it will do any good, and if I want to continue using their services, I'll probably have to give them a name I have never, ever used in my entire life: William Sharpe. Not even my mother ever called me William. I'm not sure it's worth it. Isn't Google the company that pledged to do no harm? To always do the right thing? Who are they to tell me who I am???

I used to have a brother-in-law whose first name was E.R. (uh maybe without the periods?), it was the name he was given at birth, and was on his birth certificate like that.
He used to tell all sorts of stories about the bureaucratic hassles he had over that.
