It was a joke. Your hypenation (which you copied from the AL page), was actually correct. If you read the text at the linked "cow-orker" page, you will see that "cow-orker" is incorrect, but commonly used for comedic effect. In emails between myself and colleagues, I use "cow-orker" as often as I can get away with it.
