It was when the K2 initially came out. The problem was screen fading. Many folks had problems when they were reading in the sun that the words would fade away. It was a huge mess. I know some people who went through five or six Kindles before getting one that did not have the fading problem.
I don't recall reading about any serious problems with the K1. The K2 and K3 had problems at luanch. I have not seen a ton of posting about problems with the K4 or the KT.
