Google books are often not that well done. Gutenberg is another story. The early plain vanilla texts may not be elegant but they are proofread with care. Various formats (machine converted) are available, free, and have been for a long time. i was scanning and ocring for Gutenberg back when it was dos whatever, and the only etexts easily available were from them. Used to read on the desktop as that was better than no books at all. At that time we used to produce for french texts one version without accents and another with accents done in brackets like this *de(/)ja(\)* so everyone could read them on any computer however primitive. Please remember this was done way back when we used slow dialup and paid by the kilobyte. I used to drive to town to get the scan done onto floppies, as scanners cost too much to buy. Yeah, OK, I'm old.
