Just to be clear: These are Kindle books that you are talking about - that is, books purchased and downloaded from the Amazon Kindle store?

If they are, then it is not enough to transfer them directly from the PC to the Kindle. You will either have to re-download them directly from the Kindle; or download them again to the PC, and, when you do so, specify that they are to be read on the Kindle. That's because the physical file that holds the book can only be read on the device which you originally downloaded it for.

If these are not Kindle books, or if they are DRM-free, then the above does not apply. Of course, they will need to be converted to a format the the Kindle can understand, but I assume you are familiar with those issues.

I know this doesn't answer your original question, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
