I am surprised this worked immediately after the other failure. I was expecting any further attempts to read from the KT would fail.

You delete the annotations by opening the metadata editor and deleting them from the comments.

I have't seen that mentioned. I frequently have Calibre opened and an explorer window on the KT without any issues.

Trying another computer is the one I am most interested in. If this fails the same, it suggests it is the KT. Otherwise, it is something on your computer.

An earlier suggestion was to do a checkdisk/scandisk on the KT to look for filesystem errors. Have you done this?
