That's a very interesting way to see things. Which may be right, may not.

In my opinion, as you go up in an company's structure (and I work for the biggest IT company in the world) priorities and goals change. The CEO may be more interested or focus on metrics and actual results and will see the actual worker as an instrument to get things done. If you're the actual worker, your point of view is in terms of getting things done, you don't care about metrics , your paycheck is not as good, but you go to bed with less stress and more quality of time.

Using of not using an iPad as a valid company device has a lot of technical and business implications. It's not only to ensure is secure, but see the actual benefit or profit that will generate on users. That also needs to be quantified, which is difficult too. And if you deal with sensitive stuff like databases, on my case, the things start to get more and more complex because like other said, you need to protect your or clients information if you lose the iPad or device to avoid legal issues or even worse, losing money and giving data away to competitors.
