Another thing, I reckon a lot more people were able to pre-order this time so those are less folks having to wait in line to get their iPads on release. The iPad 2 pre-orders lasted 12 hours before it went on back order. This time, the iPad 3rd gen was available for pre-order for release date delivery until early Sunday morning (iirc).
Sure, the new iPad may not have sold out as quickly as the iPad 2. They still sold a lot of them in just one weekend. Probably more than any single quarter sale of non-Nook and non-Kindle Android tablets combined.
