Point being, we are all hurt by Apple's decision not to include an expansion slot. Slow or fast, that still would have been great to have. I am not criticizing Apple for charging $100 more for 16 GB, it is taking away these options that is the problem.

Well, perhaps like the stylus, now hopefully the others will start undoing those "customer unfriendly" design decisions.
Not hurt me in the least, I use an Android tablet... not hurt most (if not all) iPad users - they don't care. I have had discussions with iPad users and mentioned I needed SD card slot and got comments like - Why, What for, Does everything I want and similar... people on this site are too prone to project their personal needs onto others as though their needs are the only important ones and forgetting the most important factor - if Apple wasn't meeting the needs of many people then they wouldn't sell the things... and if it doesn't suit your needs - GET SOMETHING ELSE, I did... it's called choice...
