I just checked, I
subscribed 72 threads. And I dont even know how did I subscribe them, it's a feature I don't use. The email I use for forums subscriptions is created just for that purpose, I check it once in a month.
About "gadget", again: please just check the dictionary, I don't find that kind of definition you're talking about. I had to check it too because i wasn't even sure of what does it mean exactly, usually I don't use it.
