If I were a publisher, I might charge $0.01 for my "freebies." That way, it can (hopefully) shoot up the PAID charts. Then when the promotion period is over, people will still see my book in the paid charts for a little while, and think it must be worth $9.99 or whatever.
I always wondered why more pubs didn't try this strategy, until yesterday I hadn't really seen $0.01 books.
