You might not get a refurb unit now. At least when I got mine replaced under warranty a couple of weeks ago, B&N seems to have setup in-store warranty replacements now. I was given a new unit when I went in to the store.

Your behavior was not unlike mine. New unit is working perfectly, the old unit the most I got was 19 days of heavy use. The least I got was 3 days of light use before the battery was flat. Even with the 19 days of heavy use it would still sometimes power off claiming the battery was flat, and then turn on 2 minutes later and say the battery was fine.
