Factory Reset for Discharging Battery?
I bought my STR in November. A handful of times since, the STR has presented the "battery too low to power on message" at unexpected times. Most recently, 4 days ago I charged the battery overnight with an AC adapter. (Charging, whether via PC or AC adapter, seems to take much longer than the STR documentation indicates.) When I got up the next morning, the STR was at 100%. I disconnected it and read for a total of 1-2 hours over the next 4 days.
Last night, I picked up the STR off my nightstand and got the same "battery too low to power on" message. The STR was sitting on a nightstand, undisturbed, nothing on top of it, at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, etc. My nontechnical guess would be that the battery is defective as it is discharging when in sleep mode.
I spoke with B&N Customer Support this morning expecting that we'd set up a replacement for the STR. The CSR wanted to take me through a factory reset. The STR is running version 1.1.1, which was updating the day I bought the STR in November. I use Calibre to manage my library but otherwise my use of the device is strictly standard.
My question to the group is this: is there any reasonably-expected benefit to a factory reset in this case? Or does this appear to be a CSR simply executing a help script?
(In any event, after my polite but pointed questions as to the usefulness of a factory reset for a potentially defective battery, the CSR set up a replacement with the local store. This may have been the speediest resolution to my call so I don't take that as vindication that the factory reset is a pointless step here.)
EDIT: To answer any potential questions, the wifi on the STR is off. As I sideload most of my content, I only turn the wifi on to sync a B&N purchase, then immediately turn the wifi off.
