I don't think OTA rootkeeper can restore root on the Fire after an os update although it does on other devices. What it's mostly useful for on the Fire is temporarily unrooting so you can watch Amazon video. But even that is of little value nowadays, because root is not really needed for very much beyond being able to get the Market and google calendar. After the last update, I rooted, reinstalled the google calendar sync adapter (already had the Market and did not lose it), and then unrooted. The superuser app gives root access to the couple of apps that need it so I do not need to manually root/unroot to do stuff.
