Thanks for the info! What I was trying to do with mixed results was to insure that in an index file, for example, that the original Section0000.xhtml s would be changed in the index so that the hotlinked page numbers for various subject would correctly go to the page number in the text for each subject. Experimenting, I found exactly what you indicated, that all Section0000s in the Index were correctly changed after I had renamed all the files in the book. Thus, my last endeavor provided apparently perfect renaming so all the hotlinks in the index and toc worked correctly . I was not aware that renaming required changes of the files.

I have a script file that will correct the problem for the Index.xhtml file contents but it is a bit cumbersome to use, and I greatly appreciate the ease and speed that Sigil auto-corrects the file designations.
