Over the coarse of about 12 hours of flying we both noticed that not one other person on the flight was speaking English. It appeared we were the only ones who spoke English.
Eventually we landed, and one of her cousins was supposed to have met us at the airport, but she didn't show up. We then tried to make arrangements to get a hotel, but we quickly discovered that we couldn't find anyone who spoke English. Neither of us spoke Japanese (she was born in the U.S. and her parents only spoke English in the household).
So anyway, after about an hour of trying to find someone who could speak English, my wife sees a woman that neither of us knew walking across the airport and my wife says, "Thank God, someone who speaks English."
How did my know-it-all wife know that this lady would speak English? BTW, the lady was not a relative.

I tried that in China and the guy turned out to be Danish (I think) and did not speak good enough English for what I needed. Bugger it he was tall an white and did not look Chinese at all. Stoopid me for thinking he would speak English!
So your Q puzzles me..
