Try this as a test: (it is easily reversible)
In the device manager:
Locate the line for
USB2.0 enhanced: Right click: Disable
Note: This temporarily turns
all the ports into USB 1.x mode so any USB2 device will suffer from slower speeds.
Repair the filesystem on your Kobo (scandisk).
And transfer some books and see what happens
I found an OLD USB1 board with an Opti chip for use with my reader so I could have my USB2 mode back (I do get a Nag the 'My device can run faster'. just ignore it
