Love triangles do see to be a standard trope in fiction, but it doesn't seem that realistic. People tend to move on. Ever notice that what passes for romantic in fiction looks like stalker behavior in real life?

Then there's the idea that someone will pine for someone for the rest of their lives rather than moving on. It might be real in some cases, but it seems more sad than romantic.
