Final Google Play Bargain Book (UK, Canada, US)

The promotion for the new Google Play website was only running for a week, so this should be the last one.

The UK Google Play of the Day book is Restless by William Boyd for £0.20.
Quote:
Atmospheric novel about an older woman whose past career as a WWII spy has come back to haunt her. <snip> Boyd skillfully manipulates language as easily as Eva does. He handles the plot more roughly. Ruth is clumsy albeit untrained, and the other characters in her world are rather thinly sketched. Yet Boyd fits the puzzle together neatly in the end.A bit light on action and intrigue, but a cool, collected effort. (Kirkus Reviews)
I only have the Amazon link.

The Canada Google Play of the Day book seems to be The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt.
Quote:
Starred Review. Dewitt's bang-up second novel (after Ablutions) is a quirky and stylish revisionist western. When a frontier baron known as the Commodore orders Charlie and Eli Sisters, his hired gunslingers, to track down and kill a prospector named Herman Kermit Warm, the brothers journey from Oregon to San Francisco, and eventually to Warm's claim in the Sierra foothills, running into a witch, a bear, a dead Indian, a parlor of drunken floozies, and a gang of murderous fur trappers.
Google link (for Adobe epub or PDF) and hopefully soon to be price matched Amazon link (for mobi). **Edited to add: Doesn't look like Amazon is price matching this for Canadians, but Moneyball is available at $0.25 for Canadians, see the link below.**

The US Google Play of the Day seems to be Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis.
Quote:
Lewis (Liar's Poker; The New New Thing) examines how in 2002 the Oakland Athletics achieved a spectacular winning record while having the smallest player payroll of any major league baseball team. Given the heavily publicized salaries of players for teams like the Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees, baseball insiders and fans assume that the biggest talents deserve and get the biggest salaries. However, argues Lewis, little-known numbers and statistics matter more. <snip> Lewis chronicles Beane's life, focusing on his uncanny ability to find and sign the right players. His descriptive writing allows Beane and the others in the lively cast of baseball characters to come alive.
Amazon price match link which is also available in Canada. Google link.
