Ok, I've now done the following as suggested...
- Checkdisk of hard drive (found no problems)
- Malware and Spyware root scans of HD, Calibre file and Font files (again found no problems)
- Font validator on both the Windows font file and the Calibre font file (once again it found no problems)
I checked the error reports for both the portable and the regular program and they both have the error as a problem with the freetype.dll file...
I'm running out of ideas and patience!!
