I think Calibre detects USB (hardware ID's) and chooses the drivers that way.
So if the device uses the old ID... it's detected as a Nook (and that precludes having a different driver made). The user is free to disable the Nook Driver and customise the 'User Defined USB Driver'.
Both can not be enabled at the same time .
