I know that Charis, DejaVu and other complete Unicode fonts have an infinity symbol. I wanted a different style of symbol, hence the embedding travail. Thanks for the notepad++/Charis tip. The Only reason I use Windows at all these days is OCR software and Notepad++. (Well that and ADE on a old netbook to deal with DRM.) Alas Notepad++ is somewhat flaky under Wine.

Font Squirrel appears to the goto place for freely usable fonts both personal and commercial. I spent far too much time chasing down old bookmarks for font sources and found Smashing Magazine an interesting source of fonts. typOasis is also a good source of fonts including the fonts of Manfred Klein and Dieter Steffman.
