What I've done is install Morkl's alternate Reader app:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=164707 (the current version /is/ the one in the top post.) which works fine with my reader. I like that I didn't /have/ to root it to install it, and I liked that it allows you to customize fonts as well.
I initially downloaded it for the better fonts handling, but fell in love with the ability to change the refresh rate.
I currently have mine set for 30 pages and never notice any ghosting. (though sometimes the flash takes me by surprise, if it's in a suspenseful part,) and have had no issues.
I don't use the homescreen app or the browser, just the Reader app.
There's lots of great advice in that thread about it. One thing I /would/ do, just in case, is download the restore/rescue set here:
http://translate.google.com/translat...hp%3Ft%3D21458 before attempting to install. If something goes wrong, you can use that to roll back the changes.
I've installed it twice now (updating the reader overwrote the app.) and have had no issues with it.
Having used the current gen Kindle as well as the Kindle Touch, I would much prefer this little hack over the Kindle itself. But there are probably just as many tweaks for the Kindle things that bug people as there are for the Sony, so it's really a matter of personal taste.
