When you say the screen went all strange, what do you mean? Do you mean maybe the checkeroard pattern or do you mean like it look like the screen is cracked? The only way we can really try to help is if you show us or describe in more detail just what it looks like.
There is another thread where some people seem to have their Gen3's screen crack for no apparent reason. That might be manufacturing defects given it's enough people who say they took proper care and that it just happened. Maybe what you had were manufacturing defects. Can't say till you give us enough to go on.
