Hello Jonathan.

So, you walked into a Borders bookstore in Orlando and walked out with a Sony Reader. It was in Orlando where I first held a Sony Reader in my hands. I had received my Kindle just 2 weeks earlier, so I wasn't in a position to purchase the Sony. But I did realize that I could be happy with the Sony device. Living in the USA, the Whispernet communication of the Kindle is a nice bonus, though.

Since I got my Kindle in mid-February, I've read 22 books on it (as well as 23 paper books and one audio book). Of these:
  • 6 were free downloads from Baen -- contemporary Science Fiction
  • 3 were purchased at Baen/Webscriptions -- contemporary Science Fiction
  • 2 were free downloads from Feedbooks -- classic Science Fiction
  • 7 were purchased at Amazon.com -- 4 new release SF, 1 new release mystery, 1 independent author, 1 cozy mystery
  • 2 were downloaded from here at Mobileread -- classic fiction for young girls
  • 1 was purchased at Fictionwise -- contemporary Science Fiction
  • 1 I made myself from a file at Project Gutenberg -- classic children's book, also uploaded here to Mobileread to share.

Point here is that there are lots of sources for eBooks and that the free books aren't just classics. If you are a fan of Science Fiction, you'll find quite a bit of free reading at Baen and several authors such as Cory Doctorow have released their books with a Creative Commons license.

Enjoy your Sony Reader and enjoy your stay here at Mobileread. We're glad you've decided to join us here.
