Able Baker Charlie by John R. Maxim
http://www.amazon.com/Abel-Baker-Cha...dp/B004XRANO4/
This is a back catalog item from traditionally print published Maxim. Most of his books have more of a straight adventure/hard-boiled mystery feel to them. (Notably his Bannerman series). This one is more psychological thriller, still with plenty of action and violence.
The protagonist is sort of an everyman, who through a series of incidents develops multiple personalities, one of which is a very capable and amoral killer. He's targeted by both government and criminal adversaries.
Because of the frequent switches between personalities, this is a little more demanding read than most of Maxim's books, but well worth it.
I recommended another couple of Maxim's back titles recently, and some MR members noted the poor formatting of them. I skimmed the first 50 pages or so of this one last night: it does suffer from some hanging indent problems, but I didn't see any of the random font changes that appeared in the previous title.
And for those who did download the previous titles and were frustrated by the formatting:
Mr. Maxim kindly responded to an email I sent, and let me know that he'd posted updated versions. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure how to replace my first version! I tried deleting my copy and downloading again, but just got the same version. I'll post details in the old thread.
