Jean Paul (21. März 1763 in Wunsiedel – 14. November 1825 in Bayreuth; eigentlich Johann Paul Friedrich Richter) war ein deutscher Schriftsteller. Er steht literarisch gesehen zwischen Klassik und Romantik. Die Namensänderung geht auf Jean Pauls große Bewunderung für Jean-Jacques Rousseau zurück.
