The Unabridged version of Monte Cristo is pretty long, the abridged versions did away with most of the sub plots (There were tons of them if I remember correctly).

Definitely his best book in my opinion, I read The Three Musketeers and it wasn't nearly as good, and I couldn't get into the sequels to it.
