It probably shows your social class more than anything. The underclass are always treated a lot more severely. Not so long ago people were getting jail sentences for stealing 50p bottles of water. Meanwhile, even the MPs who actually did got prosecuted for fiddling thousands on their expenses walked free. Those are both extremes, but social class and judge prejudice do play a part in what sort of justice you can expect to receive.
