Won't be the end of the known universe if you brick one of the silvers, will it? Besides, I haven't read about anyone who bricked their 350 and wasn't able to get it back to stock eventually.
What I'd dread is having to find a case. That was the hardest thing to replace after my first 350 got stolen.
The choice as I see it is this: Wait for the next lit-friendly innovation in screen tech (or the next iteration of readers) or assume the T1 is the last device of its kind to favor giving the most amount of control to the owner with the latest level of tech. If you feel that the T1 is the end, then I'd say to pick one up. If not, I'd rather wait -- especially since ePub 2.0 compatibility isn't certain.
