send it back. if you can't, one last thing you can do but i won't blame you if you are fed up with fiddling with it, is download mini partition home tool and wipe the disk, create a partition format FAT32.
pop the card into the reader, use the reader stock homescreen to go to settings and choose to format the memory card and the internal reader partition. try sd-rescue again.

Hi Multiprose,
I want you to know how much I appreciate your concern for my issues. To bring you up to date, my reader
appears to have somehow remedied the battery drain problem. And I am currently simply using the reset button to shut off the device when not using for awhile.
I am interested in trying your above suggestion to "download mini partition home tool and wipe the disk, create a partition format FAT32". But I'm afraid I would require much more easy-to-understand step by step instructions to accomplish this. I would not know the first thing about where to find a mini partition home tool to download, nor how to go forward from there, without simple yet detailed steps on the "how to's".
And just so you are aware of where I am at, I currently have my reader back to just a reader, as I am for some reason unable to re-root, because it hangs every time at "loading book".
Although far from adept at this computer geek stuff, I am willing to try anything to fix this thing, prior to having to return/exchange it. I am for the most part bedridden from a permanent spinal injury, and it keeps my mind occupied; gives me something (hopefully) constructive to do, to pass the time. I appreciate very much all that you, and others, have been so helpful with. Thank-you so much!
Glen
