Depends on the book, and the price, and possibly how I am feeling that day.

The authors I love and want to reread I would prefer -- and pay for -- no ads at all. But (as has already been stated) I never had big problems with the ads in the front and back of paperbacks (and hardcovers!) touting the author's other works or the publishers other authors, so I voted #2.
