We had a smaller eagle actually take a pigeon right in our garden one day (and this in an inner suburb of Adelaide). Just swooped down and plucked him off a railing. I am not sure of the type as he moved so fast and left us so surprised!
As for the weather - hot and fairly humid all week but no actual rain.

It sounds like a falcon, but I'm definitely not an expert, just love seeing them and trying to photograph them.
We are going for the mid 20s today (about 70 for those on Fahrenheit) so I have three loads of washing out there on the line. Then it's going to start warming up, so probably that means more hot weather for you too, CazMar, as we seem to get our weather from South Australia.
