I know there are certain tags you can't use in a mobi book. I believe tables tags are one of them. There is a
thread that links to code tag that crashes a Kindle. I've never had a crash with the KF and I use Calibre for all my books.
I would start by looking it at the source code of the books that is crashing. See if you can pinpoint something they have in common. some of my books has images and no issues there. Are you using the latest Calibre?
How do you sideload? Maybe something is corrupting the books.
